Physicists at the European Quantum Academy

The Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science at Nicolaus Copernicus University has become a partner in the European Quantum Academy (EQA) project, which officially launched on 1 May 2026.

The European Quantum Academy is a pan-European initiative selected for implementation by the European Commission following a competitive call for proposals. The project brings together over 70 partner institutions and 100 collaborating organisations from across Europe. The aim of the project is to develop the training of specialists in the field of quantum technologies, covering a wide range of activities – from secondary schools, through higher education and doctoral programmes, to vocational training and expert programmes.

The European Quantum Academy is a pan-European response to market demand in the field of quantum technologies. The project aims to support the development of a European quantum technology ecosystem and the training of personnel for emerging fields related to quantum communication, quantum computing and sensor technologies.

The total project budget is €19.8 million, and its implementation is scheduled to take four years. The project is co-funded by the EU under the Digital Europe programme. The EQA structure comprises six regional quantum academies covering the entire European Union and Ukraine.

On the NCU side, the preparation of the grant application was led by Dr Artur Czerwiński in collaboration with Dr Piotr Kolenderski (head of the QUADROCS Research Unit), Professor at NCU, and Dr Mikołaj Lasota, with administrative support from Dr Dobrosława Bartoszek-Bober. Dr Artur Czerwiński will also coordinate the implementation of the project at NCU.
