Description of the competition
The aim of the competition is to support the development of scientific activities in line with the four most important goals of the University as a research university (4xI @ NCU), which are: internationalization, interdisciplinarity, innovation and integrity. They include all kinds of preliminary, exploratory and pilot research, queries, research internships, research trips, active participation in scientific conferences or consultation trips.
The competition is aimed at university researchers who do not currently manage and in the last 5 years have not managed their research grant obtained from external funds.
The amount of co-financing for one project awarded under the competition may not exceed PLN 50,000. The winners of the competition receive financial support in the form of a grant for the implementation of the project submitted for the competition and the possibility of obtaining substantive support in the preparation of grant applications from internal experts.

During the call we invite you to online consultations with the competition expert. Consultations will be held on the Microsoft Teams every Monday (23.09, 30.09, 07.10, 14.10) from 10:00 to 11:00.

Edition VII 04.03.2024. – 05.04.2024 r
The competition was aimed at young scientists within the meaning of Article 360 (2) of the Act of July 20, 2018. – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2021, item 478, as amended) who hold a doctoral degree and are employees of the University, academic teachers who are under 50 years of age on the date of application, academic teachers who meet the criteria set forth in items. 1 or 2, who have given birth or raised a child using maternity or parental leave in the last 3 years, who do not and have not in the last 5 years managed their own research grant obtained from external funds from the National Science Center (NCN), the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW), the National Program for the Development of the Humanities (NPRH), the National Center for Research and Development (NCBR), the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) or the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).
The competition received 22 applications to the HS Council, 6 applications to the ST Council and 16 applications to the NZ Council (a total of 44 applications, 42 of which met formal requirements). All applications were subjected to substantive evaluation by the relevant Area Councils.
As a result of the individual evaluations, a list of winners in the “Initiative of Excellence – Debuts – 6th Edition” competition was drawn up.

All applications were subjected to substantive evaluation by the relevant scientific councils of the scientific fields. As a result of the individual assessments, a list of winners in the competition ‘Initiative of Excellence – Debuts – 4th edition’ was drawn up.
Edition III 14.02.2022 – 13.03.2022r.
The competition attracted 34 applications to the HS council, 13 applications to the ST council and 23 applications to the NZ council (a total of 70 applications meeting the formal requirements). All applications were subjected to substantive evaluation by the relevant scientific councils of scientific fields. As a result of the individual evaluations, a list of winners in the “Initiative of Excellence – Debuts – 3rd edition” competition was drawn up.
Edition II 17.04.2020 – 01.06.2020r.
The competition is aimed at male and female researchers at the University, especially young researchers, who are not currently directing and have not directed their own research grant obtained from external funds from the National Science Center (NCN), the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW), the National Program for the Development of the Humanities (NPRH), the National Center for Research and Development (NCBR), the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) or the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) within the last 5 years.
Edition I 23.12.2019 – 24.01.2020
The Excellence Initiative – Debuts competition is aimed at UMK researchers, particularly young researchers, who are not currently directing and have not directed their own externally-funded research grant in the past 5 years. Applicants must not be members of Centers of Excellence or Emerging Fields established at UMK under IDUB.
