BRIDGE – Innovative biomaterials, therapeutics, and non-invasive imaging for regenerative precision medicine of barrier tissues

BRIDGE is an interdisciplinary group of researchers and clinicians forming a platform that bridges fundamental research and medical applications. The project’s primary goal is to develop less invasive and more effective therapies that improve patients’ quality of life and contribute to the development of modern medicine. The BRIDGE team develops innovative solutions for regenerative medicine, including those for barrier tissues such as the skin, the ocular surface, and the respiratory epithelium. These tissues constitute the body’s first line of defense against external factors, but in many chronic diseases (including difficult-to-heal wounds, ophthalmological diseases, and lung conditions), their regenerative capacity is limited.

The interdisciplinary nature of the team combines chemistry, biology, pharmacy, physics, and medicine into a coherent, translational research model that integrates the discovery of new materials, the design of drug delivery systems, and advanced non-invasive optical imaging techniques. The project also employs modern technologies such as 3D printing, and manufacturing processes are designed following sustainable and environmentally responsible principles. This approach enables simultaneous development of complementary therapies and diagnostic tools that complement each other, accelerate the translation of research into clinical practice, and have a measurable impact on society, improving patient access to innovative treatments.

The project will develop:

– bioactive dressings and hydrogels supporting healing and regeneration,

– innovative drug delivery systems (e.g., ophthalmic formulations, inhalation systems),

– new small-molecule compounds as potential active substances, and

– optical imaging platforms supported by AI analysis for real-time monitoring of tissue remodeling and regeneration.
