Information for students
1. Call for applications:
07.11.2024 – 09.12.2024
2. Competition description:
The CO-OP program is implemented within the framework of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” program and is a formula for cooperation between science and business, enabling the best students to take up professional work during their studies and allowing them to gain their first experience in the labor market. The premise of the program is to complete a paid internship (minimum half-time). The duration of the internship is determined by the employer with the student (min 2 months, max 5). The internship can be carried out during the summer vacation or during the academic year, while agreeing to the individual organization of studies (IOS). The location of the internship can be chosen by the student himself or use the Career Office base. The salary is a minimum of PLN 4000 gross full-time (otherwise the salary will be paid proportionally). In the first month the remuneration is paid by the university, in subsequent months further rules of the internship are agreed between the student and the company.
The CO-OP program is intended for first-, second- and unified master’s degree students who have obtained a grade point average for the preceding semester of at least 4.0 and meet other project requirements specified in the Regulations. After completing the formalities, the student undergoes an assessment of soft skills with counselors of the UMK Career Office and a recruitment process with the employer.
The competition is not open to a student who has already completed an internship within the CO-OP program in the same field and level of study. The scope of the internship is directly related to the learning outcomes assumed for the field of study in which the student is studying, and ensures the practical application of the selected learning outcomes in the course of the tasks performed at the internship.
Benefits of taking part in the program:
- valuable experience gained while you are still a student,
- the opportunity to establish further (post-internship) cooperation with the employer,
- opportunity to establish professional contacts,
- the opportunity to count the internship towards mandatory student internships,
- internship remuneration,
- opportunity to realize a certain pool of ECTS credits,
- document confirming participation in the project and references from the employer.
62% of program participants have signed a contract with their employer.
Below are some of the statements made by participants in the CO-OP program:
- The program provides access to employers, which gives the student a chance to gain firsthand experience in a profession. What’s more, unlike most internships, the student gets paid for their work.
- The opportunity to gain first experience in the industry.
- I think the biggest benefit I’ve gained from taking part in the project is working for the company where I interned.
- I signed a contract.
- I was able to get a job in an area that interested me even before my internship.
- It’s easier to find a job this way. There are few offers on the market for students, where you can adjust your schedule and work part-time. The fact that the university pays for the first month is certainly an added advantage, encouraging the employer to hire you.
- There was a wide selection of companies to work with.
- Getting work experience, starting work after the internship.
