The University of Wroclaw invites you to participate in the third edition of the competition for the prestigious Heisig Prize, awarded for outstanding and innovative scientific achievements. The founder of the Prize is Prof. Dr. dr. Norbert Heisig, distinguished professor of medical sciences, honorary Senator and honorary doctor of the University of Wroclaw, founder and long-time president of the German-Polish Society of UWr.
The award was established in 2020 as an expression of Polish-German understanding and is intended to promote the most outstanding achievements of researchers in Polish science. The award recognizes a researcher or a researcher whose/whose work is distinguished by innovation in a field relevant to the modern world, has gained widespread recognition and has been completed with a specific scientific achievement (the purpose of the award is not to reward the researcher's/researcher's entire body of work). The winner of the competition receives a prize of 200 thousand PLN.
To date, the Heisig Prize has been awarded to Prof. Jan Potempa of the Jagiellonian University (2021) for his discovery of biochemical mechanisms linking periodontal disease to autoimmune reactions, and Prof. Lechoslaw Latos-Grazynski of the University of Wroclaw (2023) for his discoveries on the structural dissimilarity of porphyrins, with broad research and application potential.
Candidates for the Heisig Prize can be submitted by universities participating in the Initiative of Excellence - Research University program. Each university may submit one candidate for the award. Details of the competition and required documents are available in the Regulations of the 3rd edition of the Heisig Prize and on the IDUB website.
Applications for candidates for the Award should be sent to dn@umk.pl by December 13, 2024. One person representing the UMK will be selected from the submitted applications.
We invite you to nominate candidates whose achievements can provide evidence of the highest quality of Polish science, with a significant impact on the modern world.
